What is Tarot Card

Tarot cards are a deck of playing cards that are often used for divination and to gain insights into the past, present, and future. While they are often associated with mystical and occult practices, they have also been used for entertainment and as a tool for self-reflection.

A standard Tarot deck typically consists of 78 cards, divided into two main categories:

  1. Major Arcana: This consists of 22 cards that represent significant life events, archetypal figures, and spiritual lessons. Major Arcana cards often carry strong symbolic and philosophical meanings.
  2. Minor Arcana: The remaining 56 cards are divided into four suits (similar to a regular deck of playing cards): Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles (or Coins). Each suit contains 14 cards, including 10 numbered cards and 4 court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, and King). These cards are associated with everyday situations and events.

The Tarot is typically used in a process called Tarot reading, where a reader interprets the cards' meanings and their positions within a spread to provide insights and guidance to the querent (the person seeking a reading). Tarot readings can be used for various purposes, including gaining insight into personal matters, making decisions, understanding relationships, and exploring spiritual or psychological aspects of one's life.
